French prosecutors raid banks in tax fraud case


Five of France's biggest banks are facing scrutiny in an ongoing investigation into possible tax fraud. BNP Paribas and Société Générale were among the lenders whose Paris offices have been raided by French prosecutors. They're accused of helping facilitate tax avoidance related to dividend payments. Also in the show - Chinese tech giant Alibaba is split into six separate units, a day after the public reappearance of its co-founder, Jack Ma.

    Colombian superstar Shakira leaves court after reaching a deal with prosecutors to end her trial for allegedly defrauding the Spanish state of 14.5 million euros ($15.7 million) on income earned between 2012 and 2014.   • French prosecutors raid pizza plant after E.coli outbreak

    Searches are being carried out at the Buitoni factory in Caudry in the North of France, where Fraich'Up frozen pizzas are produced, suspected of having caused serious cases of E.coli contamination in children. An investigation into involuntary manslaughter and deceitful practices was opened on April 1 after authorities learned of more than 70 infections, which may have caused the deaths of a one-year-old and an 18-year-old.
