French President Emmanuel Macron is paying tribute to the heroism of members of the World War II Resistance based at a remote Alpine plateau who were attacked by the Nazi army and French collaborationist forces. Members of the resistance used the Vercors Plateau as a refuge after the occupation of France from 1940, receiving airdrops from the Allies and even occasional visits by British agents with the top-secret Special Operations Executive (SOE) unit. With 2024 marking 80 years since the penultimate year of World War II, Macron is making a series of high-profile commemorations to remember resistance heroes but also to note the role played by native French collaborationist militia (milice) in the German occupation. Alors c’est devenu une enquête historique rocambolesque. Avec son lot de non-dits, de portes fermées, et de révélations soudaines. Le décor ? Les hauteurs de Meymac, en plein plateau de Millevaches. Les protagonistes ? Des anonymes, qui pourraient bien être votre grand-père, votre voisin, ou votre ami d’enfance… Tout a commencé par les confidences d’un homme. Un des résistants du groupe. Aujourd’hui âgé de 98 ans, il ne soupçonnait pas ce que ses paroles allaient provoquer… Du refus d’autorité au complotisme : qui sont les citoyens souverains ? Un reportage de Clément Le Goff, Pierre Monegier, Hervé Pozzo, Elodie Delevoye et Raynald Lellouche La vidéo est devenue virale en quelques heures. A makeshift migrant camp looks nearly empty in Mexico's Matamoros, at the border with Brownsville, Texas, where Democrat US President Joe Biden is expected to meet border patrol and other law enforcement agents.
