Britain's King Charles III attends a tech and innovation showcase at Nairobi Garage, a coworking space in the Kenyan capital. Dubbed the ‘Silicon Savannah’, Kenya is currently the third largest start up eco-system in Africa, after South Africa and Nigeria. It is the 74-year-old British head of state's first tour of an African and Commonwealth nation since becoming king last year and comes just weeks before Kenya celebrates the 60th anniversary of independence in December. Mais comment en sont-ils arrivés à leur dernière version d’Atlas, ce robot humanoïde d’1m88 qui aide Hyundaï dans sa production de voiture ? À la base, en 2016, la première version de cet androïde mesurait 1m75 pour 82kg et pouvait marcher et maintenir son équilibre, même bousculée. L’année suivante, la seconde version peut porter et jeter des colis, sauter et même faire un salto arrière. En 2020, le robot se met carrément à faire du parkour et à danser avec ses collègues. Ces dernières versions étant hydrauliques, Atlas est maintenant passé à une version électrique, permettant une plus grande amplitude de mouvement avec des câbles moins gênants et des moteurs plus puissants. L’androïde est capable de faire des pompes et de trier des pièces en corrigeant ses erreurs. Ses capacités seront testées dans les usines Hyundai pour libérer les humains des charges lourdes et des tâches accablantes. Un destin prometteur.
