Vladimir Kara-Murza has rejected the charges against him as political and likened the judicial proceedings against him to the show trials during the rule of Soviet dictator Josef Stalin.

Céline Lebrun-Shaath is the wife of Ramy Shaath, a Palestinian-Egyptian activist who has been jailed in Egypt since July. Ramy Shaath is the coordinator in Egypt of the boycott campaign against Israel, BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions). He is also the son of Nabil Shaath, a well-known Palestinian Authority figure who is still an advisor to Mahmoud Abbas. Shaath has been charged with assisting a "terrorist group" and might have to wait two years for a trial. Lebrun-Shaath, a French citizen, tells FRANCE 24 her husband is a "prisoner of conscience" and calls for his immediate release.
Russian opposition activist Vladimir Kara-Murza says that gains in recent mayoral elections bode well for bigger tests in Moscow later this year and in 2014. But Armen Georgian puts it to him that, with President Putin’s approval ratings still comfortably above 60%, the opposition is failing to break through the wall.
European Council president Charles Michel says Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports "must stop". Speaking to reporters in New Delhi ahead of the G20 summit, Michel says that "over 250 million people face acute food insecurity worldwide" and by threatening the movement of grain, "the Kremlin is depriving them of the food they desperately need."
