Displaced indigenous Colombians take refuge in Bogota's National Park

Bogota, Oct 4 (EFE).- At least 800 indigenous Colombians, who have taken refuge in the National Park of Bogota, on Monday asked the Colombian government for help and said they would not return to their villages due to the violence in the areas. Most of the indigenous people, from Colombia's western Chocó department, have been forcibly displaced due to armed clashes between drug gangs seeking to dominate the area. Bogotá, Oct 2 (EFE).- About 350 people from the Embera indigenous community continued Saturday to camp in the Bogotá National Park after they were evicted earlier this week from the house where they lived in the Vista Hermosa neighborhood of Ciudad Bolívar.This group was displaced from the Chocó region and arrived in Bogotá a year ago. They received monetary aid and subsidies from the Victims Unit and the District but when these grants ended, they decided to stay at the emblematic Bogota park. Bogota, Aug 12 (EFE).- More than a hundred indigenous people displaced by the armed conflict in their territory remain in a makeshift camp in the Tercer Milenio park in downtown Bogota, waiting for the mayor's office to provide them with permanent accommodation during the COVID-19 pandemic.(Camera: JUAN DIEGO LOPEZ).
