The European Union says it has allocated 20 million euros ($21.8 million) worth of humanitarian aid to Haiti after gang violence plunged the Caribbean country into renewed chaos. "An unprecedented level of gang violence is dramatically increasing humanitarian needs across the country. The funding will help humanitarian partners to address the most urgent needs of the population," says European Commission spokesman Balazs Ujvari. SOUNDBITE
The European Union signs a deal with war-torn Ukraine to release a further 500 million euros ($497 million) in planned aid, this time to support housing, education and agriculture. SOUNDBITE
As part of the EU's response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Ursula von der Leyen says Brussels will provide 500 million euros ($560 million) in extra funding to help deal with the "humanitarian consequences" of the war, including the flow of refugees into the bloc. SOUNDBITE
