As part of the EU's response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Ursula von der Leyen says Brussels will provide 500 million euros ($560 million) in extra funding to help deal with the "humanitarian consequences" of the war, including the flow of refugees into the bloc. SOUNDBITE
The European Union says it has allocated 20 million euros ($21.8 million) worth of humanitarian aid to Haiti after gang violence plunged the Caribbean country into renewed chaos. "An unprecedented level of gang violence is dramatically increasing humanitarian needs across the country. The funding will help humanitarian partners to address the most urgent needs of the population," says European Commission spokesman Balazs Ujvari. SOUNDBITE

Germany announces 1.3 billion euros more in military gear for Ukraine in its fight against Russia, including four further IRIS T-SLM air defence systems as well as artillery ammunition. European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen says the EU is increasing its humanitarian aid for Gaza by 25 million euros ($27 million). "By doing so the European Union will spend a total of 100 million euros in humanitarian aid for the civilians in Gaza," von der Leyen tells EU diplomats in Brussels. SOUNDBITE
