Recent satellite images show China is building its first airstrip in the disputed Spratly Islands and may be working on a second airstrip, according to an analysis by defence journal IHS Janes.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense has asked Google to blur satellite images of its military facilities in the South China Sea on the tech giant’s Earth and Map services.
China has recently deployed fighter jets to the same disputed island in the South China Sea where they placed surface-to-air missiles last week.
Tensions are high in the Spratly archipelago as the US conducted an operation testing China’s territorial claims.
