    BMW presented a level five autonomous driving car at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona on Monday, a car that would allow its driver to completely take his or her mind off the road, enabling the driver to eat, watch a movie, or even sleep behind the wheel. However, the level five autonomous car still has a way to go before being realised. In the meantime, BMW expects to get level 3 autonomous vehicles called iNEXT on the road by 2021.

  • Dutch Students Unveil World's First Electric Biocomposite Car

    Some very creative and enterprising students from the Eindhoven University of Technology unveiled the world's first biocomposite car, dubbed 'Lina', at their university’s campus in Eindhoven on Wednesday. The vehicle, which is fully functional, weighs just over 660 pounds, runs on electric energy generated by a battery pack. The next step for Lina and the design team is to try and obtain a licence number for the car, which will enable her to be driven on public roads. In order to do this, they have to test the vehicle on the streets with the backing of the Dutch Vehicle Authority.

  • Airbus Unveils World's First 'Drone-Car' at Geneva Motor Show

    Italdesign and Airbus unveiled the 'Pop.Up', the world's first fully electric, zero emission, drone-carried vehicle, at the Geneva International Motor Show on Tuesday. The 'flying car' was designed to help relieve traffic congestion in cities by simply flying out of traffic. The car's driver sits in a frame that is fitted within an autonomous car. When traffic builds up, the driver has the opportunity to escape through calling a drone on their iPhone to wherever they are sitting. The drone then lifts the capsule into the air, and carries it and the driver off to unpolluted freedom. Of course, flying cars present many problems with air traffic control and safety, so the technology is not quite ready for mass adoption, but the concept is exciting. How you you like to simply fly up and over traffic in Airbus' Pop.Up drone lifted car?

  • Check Out the World's First Highway-Safe, 3D-Printed Supercar

    It may not look like it, but this new supercar is nearly entirely 3D printed. That's right, the chassis parts of the Blade Supercar, manufactured by automaker Divergent 3D, was printed out of composite materials and put together by hand. Divergent 3D CEO Kevin Czinger was on site as his company presented their Blade Supercar at the Los Angeles Auto Show on Wednesday. Oh, did we mention that the Blade is federally approved for highway travel? Powered by a 700 hp, 4-cylinder turbocharged internal combustion engine, the Blade can go from 0 to 60mph in 2.5 seconds

    L'immense écran qui surgit devant le passager d'une Volvo expérimentale (c'est toute la moitié de la planche de bord qui pivote) diffuse tout le contenu rendu accessible par "une nouvelle technologie d'internet à débit bien plus élevé qu'aujourd'hui" étudié en partenariat avec Ericsson. De quoi promettre "un streaming sans interruption" pour tirer le plein parti des voyages du futur en Volvo dont la conduite sera entièrement automatisée. "Si vous voulez regarder le dernier épisode de votre série préférée, le véhicule optimisera l’itinéraire et le temps de trajet. Avec la conduite autonome, il ne s’agira plus d’aller le plus rapidement possible d’un point A à un point B mais de profiter de l’expérience, de disposer librement du temps passé à bord. Avec cette technologie, nous voulons donner à chacun la liberté d’utiliser ce temps comme il l’entend et de choisir les contenus qu’il souhaite explique", Anders Tylman, Directeur général du Volvo Monitoring & Concept Center (Californie).
