  • The story of the children sent to Belgium during the Spanish civil war

Haccourt (Belgium), March 7 (EFE), (Camera: Leo Rodríguez).- Amelia Badillo, 92, lives in Haccourt, a Belgian town a few kilometres from the Dutch border. Until she was 8 years old she lived in Castro Urdiales, in Spain but when the Spanish civil war broke out in 1936 she was sent to Belgium with an adoptive family.FOOTAGE AND SOUNDBITES OF AMELIA BADILLO:"My father, Antonio, was a revolutionary, he supported the Spanish Republic and, fortunately, my mother was at home when my father passed away. If not, Franco would have killed him. My mother was then alone with six children and the youngest one was still a baby.""The family who adopted me was a couple without kids and they were very happy to have me."

  • Interview with Pedro Almodóvar

Madrid, Oct 4 (EFE).- (Camera: Enrique Del Viso/ Tato Pérez) The theme of freedom underpins much of Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar’s work, but in "Parallel Mothers", a drama about "imperfect motherhood", the filmmaker doubles down on his political engagement by contributing his two cents to a sensitive national debate -- Spain’s "moral debt" over the people who were disappeared during the Spanish Civil War.INTERVIEW WITH PEDRO ALMODOVAR.Translations:"The idea I started writing with was that of the two mothers, while the question of historical memory is a subject that has always haunted me and I had never managed to put in a film because it didn't fit. It seemed to me that if Penelope's character was looking for her great-grandfather, and she was in that group of families looking for victims in that tangential way the theme would fit, the historical memory topic is very deep, very important." "In all my films I talk about freedom, and in my opinion, it's a political topic. No matter what gender or story you tell. But this is the most political film. I think the Spanish society has an enormous moral debt with the families of the disappeared, who are in ditches, mass graves, cemeteries, and the sooner this debt is paid, the better. It is already too late because now it's the great-grandchildren who are asking for it and once this generation is passed by, it will be difficult."

  • Shell Shock UK Trailer

Best friends Mark (Farrell) and David (Sives) are two expert war photographers sent to war-torn Kurdistan. When Mark returns home battered and bruised, he is surprised to learn David has not yet made it back. Exhausted and ill, he tries in vain to hide his physical and psychological wounds. His uncharacteristically strange behaviour prompts wife Elena (Vega) to enlist the help of her grandfather, straight-talking Spanish psychiatrist (Lee) who worked treating Fascists after they committed atrocities in the Civil War. Uncovering the painful truth, it soon becomes clear that Mark holds the key to real reason behind David's disappearance...
