If Chancellor George Osborne has his way, driverless cars will start trials on local roads in the UK this year, motorways next year, and could be commonly used by 2020. Osborne plans to use the budget statement Wednesday to announce procedures that could make Britain a groundbreaker in the technology. In a statement, Osborne said he believes that driverless cars could signify the most essential change to transportation since the development of the internal combustion engine.

During a speech delivered to the press in London's Downing Street briefing room, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announces the push back of the ban on the sale of petrol and diesel cars from 2030 to 2035. "We're going to ease the transition to electric vehicles. You'll still be able to buy petrol and diesel cars and vans until 2035.", he states.
