Prince's Purple Rain Ruffle Shirt And Jacket Auctioned for $192K

Description

Items from Prince's "Purple Rain" costuming were sold at a higher than anticipated price at auction on July 1st. A white shirt with ruffles and the blazer with leather on the sleeves each sold for $96,000 bringing the total haul to $192,000. A make-up artist from the 1984 film was gifted the items and she gifted them to her sibling who then became the original seller. Joe Maddalena the founder of the Profiles In History Auction house said the items were scheduled to be sold prior to Prince's death in April. Maddalena spoke about the historical value of the sale when he said, ""Probably the signature thing he is known for is Purple Rain. It's what made his career. It's probably what he’ll be remembered for always. To have an important piece like this is pretty astonishing and an amazing opportunity."
