It is the most extreme crash test ever executed by Volvo Cars, and a crucial one. Extrication specialists often use cars crashed at the Volvo Cars Safety Centre to hone their life-saving skills. To allow rescue services to prepare for any possible crash scenario and to simulate the forces that erupt in the most extreme crashes, beyond what can be simulated with ordinary crash testing, Volvo Cars recently took equally extreme measures. For the first time, it dropped several new Volvos multiple times from a crane, from a height of 30 metres. This approach helped create enough damage to adequately simulate the damage found in the most extreme crash scenarios: think of single-car accidents at very high speed, accidents whereby a car hits a truck at high speed, or accidents whereby a car takes a severe hit from the side.
Animal rescuer Richard Tesore became a mother to two orphaned seal cubs stranded on the Uruguay’s east coast after a heavy storm, when he saved the pups from certain death. Founder of the non-governmental organisation SOS Rescue of Marine Fauna, which helps animals in danger, Richard Tesore is no stranger to helping animals in dire need. His center provided emergency food and treatment, which saved the lives of the two seals, and is now helping them gain strength.

Scientists from the Moscow Technological Institute showcased what could be the future of accessible medicine, a drone equipped with a defibrillator, which could decrease response times to heart attack cases dramatically. The drone’s maximum speed is about 30 mph, it features a maximum flying distance of about 15 miles, and it can be operated for 30 minutes without charging.
This poor and clumsy young elephant fell down a 70-foot-deep well in southern India and would likely have died there if it weren't for the brave effort of rescue workers. The elephant calf alerted a nearby forest patrol to her plight by trumpeting anguished cries for help. The forest workers followed the sound and arrived to the well to find the animal shivering in fright. They called in a team of rescue workers to help lift the large animal to safety. A group of villagers and onlookers heard the commotion and decided to gather around the rescue workers and help out in the effort
It's always heartwarming to see humans working together to help animals in need. Disaster struck when one unlucky puppy fell into a freshly dug 230 foot deep well on February 5th in the Dereseki neighbourhood of the Beykoz district of Istanbul. Animal rights activists, fire fighters, municipal rescue teams and members of the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) went up in arms to help with the operation.
