The House of Representatives impeached President Donald Trump on Wednesday. Having been previously impeached for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress related to the Ukraine scandal, he's the first president to be impeached twice. Trump was impeached for 'incitement of insurrection' over his role in triggering the violent siege of the US Capitol on January 6. Five people died in the riot. According to Business Insider, ten Republican lawmakers broke ranks to vote with their Democratic colleagues to impeach the president. The final vote was 232 in favor of impeachment and 197 against.
In the critical runoff election in Georgia, Democrat Jon Ossoff is vying to oust the incumbent Republican Sen. David Perdue. Now, Business Insider reports Ossoff has become the highest-funded candidate for Senate in US history. The Federal Election Commission says Ossoff raised $106.7 million between October 15 and December 16. The Democrat Rev. Raphael Warnock is running against GOP Sen. Kelly Loeffler. He raised $103.3 million during the same time. The race has drawn national attention because the victors will determine whether Republicans maintain control of the Senate.
Dr. Fauci met with President-elect Joe Biden's transition team on Thursday. Fauci will continue in his role under the Biden administration at the National Institutes of Health. Fauci said they discussed “a variety of Covid-related topics.” Fauci said he has spoken previously with Biden's incoming White House chief of staff, Ron Klain. Fauci added that his Thursday meeting will likely be the first of a series of transition meetings with the team. He also said he fully expects to remain in his role as director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

It's the first Democratic presidential victory in the state since Bill Clinton's narrow win in 1992, and earns Biden the state's 16 electoral votes. It brings Biden's final Electoral College count to 306, well above the 270 vote threshold for victory. Trump will earn 232 Electoral College votes. According to Business Insider, nearly all statewide precincts have reported. Biden led Trump by a 0.3% margin, earning 49.5% of the votes compared to Trump's 49.2%. Due to the closeness of the race, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Wednesday ordered a statewide audit of the presidential election results. Such an audit requires that each ballot be counted by hand. Final vote tallies from each precinct must be submitted by November 18th.
(CNN)Joe Biden will win Georgia, CNN projected Friday, striking at the heart of what has been Republican presidential stronghold for nearly three decades. The former vice president is the first Democratic nominee to triumph in Georgia since Bill Clinton did it in 1992. Biden's victory adds 16 electoral votes to his tally, bringing him to 306 -- matching President Donald Trump's 2016 total. With CNN's projection that Trump will win North Carolina, the final tally is 306-232. In Georgia, Trump had raced out to an early lead in the counting, but Biden surged ahead as the votes from Atlanta and its suburbs were tabulated.
