  • Congresswoman Catches COVID-19 After Sheltering In Place With Fellow US Lawmakers

    Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) has tested positive for COVID-19 after sheltering in place with fellow lawmakers. Business Insider reports the 75-year-old cancer survivor is starting her third term. She announced her diagnosis on Twitter early Monday afternoon. Watson Coleman tweeted that she'd sheltered in place at the Capitol during Wednesday's attack, with 'several colleagues who refused to wear masks.' Another representative said last week that 'about half' of the 300 or 400 lawmakers who crowded into a secure location during the siege refused to wear masks. Watson Coleman says she's isolating at home, and while she's experiencing mild symptoms, she remains in good spirits.

  • Man Who Murdered At Least 60 Dead At 80

    The man known to have killed at least 60 people, and claimed to have murdered more than 90, is now dead. Newser reports Samuel Little, America's deadliest serial killer, died early Wednesday at a California hospital. He was 80 years old. Little targeted victims who would not be missed; many of their deaths were initially attributed to accidents or drug overdoses. He was serving multiple life sentences at a California state prison. Little suffered from various ailments including diabetes and heart problems. With his death, law enforcement officials fear victims that are as yet unidentified may remain so for even longer.

  • Congress, No Black Women Senators After Harris Is VP

    (CNN) Sen. Kamala Harris broke barriers as America's first female, first Black and first South Asian vice president-elect. But after her exit in January to join the Biden administration, there will be no Black women in the Senate. Harris's departure left lawmakers and advocates urging California Gov. Gavin Newsom to choose a Black woman to replace her due to a lack of diversity in the chamber. And while his appointment on Tuesday of Secretary of State Alex Padilla as California's first Latino senator was historic, it comes with the reality that the 117th Congress will have no Black women in the upper chamber.

  • Barack Obama's Favorite Books Of 2020

    Former President Barack Obama is keeping up with his annual custom of sharing his favorite books of the year. In a Twitter post Thursday, he highlighted 17 titles that made the cut this year. Noticeably absent from the list is his own memoir "A Promised Land" which hit bookstores last month. Isabel Wilkerson's "Caste," made the list, as did Brit Bennett's "The Vanishing Half". C Pam Zhang's "How Much of These Hills is Gold" was also picked by the former president for his list of favorites. According to CNN, "Long Bright River" by Liz Moore, and "Memorial Drive" by Natasha Trethewey are also included in the picks.
