On Wednesday, Microsoft announced that over 270 million PC users are running Windows 10. The news comes just over a year after the operating system's release. Microsoft confirmed that this makes Windows 10 "the fastest growing version of Windows," both for personal and business use. The holiday shopping season was a big boost for the tech giant, since 40% of the devices running Windows 10 were activated after Black Friday. As of January, Windows 10 was running on over 200 million devices.
With the debut of the next-generation iPhone likely three months away — a new one traditionally launches each September — the Apple rumor mill is heating up right on schedule. Allegedly leaked photos of Apple's upcoming iPhone, presumed to be called the iPhone 6S, reveal an exterior casing that looks nearly identical to the iPhone 6 but comes with some internal updates. The details come from tech site 9to5Mac, which has a solid track record of correctly identifying leaks ahead of an Apple launch. Despite initial rumors that the next-generation 4.7-inch iPhone could be even slimmer than the iPhone 6, the leaked photos show no changes to the casing. If the photos are legit, any differences in thickness, length or width are too small to notice. This doesn't come as a huge surprise, considering the iPhone is on an "S" cycle this year, which traditionally has fewer design changes and more internal upgrades.
Windows 10 arrives this summer. A Mashable reviewer says after years of problems with Windows 8, Microsoft is finally getting its act together with its upcoming operating system. Windows 10 will be available as a free update for all users with official Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 licenses until July 29, 2016. Users who don't have a previous Windows license will have to pay for a fresh copy of Windows 10.
Panasonic is launching the G7, a smaller 4K-shooting 4K mirrorless camera for $800 — half as much as the GH4. A blogger for Mashable got to play with the camera and shoot some 4K footage recently. He said although both cameras are of the Micro Four Thirds format, the G7 is way smaller and lighter. He wrote that the lightness, along with the plastic construction, makes the camera feel somewhat cheap. Buttons and control wheels cover almost every available surface on the camera body.
