Tokyo, May 28 (EFE/EPA).- Japanese carmaker Nissan on Thursday confirmed that it is closing its manufacturing plant in Barcelona, calling it a "difficult" decision following the economic woes amid the coronavirus pandemic.Nissan CEO Makoto Uchida announced the closure while releasing the financial results of the company for the fiscal year 2019-20 - that ended in March - which showed that the company had slipped into a loss for the first time in 11 years.The carmaker registered a net loss of around 671.2 billion yen ($6.2 billion) during the period, hit by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent economic slowdown. The OECD raises its global economic growth forecast for 2024, driven by strong performances in the United States and emerging countries while Europe lags behind. The US economy -- the world's biggest -- is now expected to expand 2.6 percent in 2024, up from the 2.1 percent previously expected.
