A successful record run by Mercedes-AMG at the prestigious Repco Bathurst 12 Hour. With a special version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3, the performance and sports car brand wrote another piece of motorsport history in Australia on Saturday.Mercedes-AMG Performance Driver Jules Gounon (AND) took up the challenge behind the wheel of the about 650 hp strong racing car at Mount Panorama Circuit. The three-time Bathurst winner covered the 6.213 kilometres at an average speed of 191.82 kph. With a time of 1m 56.605s, he posted the fastest lap time ever set with a GT car at the circuit.The reigning Intercontinental GT Challenge champion took to the track in the run-up to the legendary endurance race in the Australian state of New South Wales. In his record attempt, the 29-year-old beat the previous best time at the iconic circuit by 2.074 seconds and illustrated the impressive potential of the Mercedes-AMG GT3. The 6.2-litre V8 engine, aimed at maximum performance without an air restrictor, combined with the drag reduction system (DRS) derived from Formula 1, reached a top speed of 308.71 kph. This was achieved on the 1.916 kilometres long Conrod Straight. In addition to the carbon brake system, the optimised aerodynamics package with revised front apron, splitter, side skirts and rear diffuser proved its effect in the middle sector, characterised by fast corners.The operational team initially sent out the modified Mercedes-AMG GT3 onto the race track for a shakedown on Friday to gather experience and validate the setup. During this first assessment of the car, the record at Mount Panorama Circuit was already broken. In a second session, Jules Gounon broke the record once more. On Saturday morning at 9:20 a.m. local time, the team took advantage of the ideal conditions with an air temperature of 21 degrees Celsius and an asphalt temperature of 30 degrees Celsius to set the new record time of 1m 56.605s minutes during the final run.

The latest round of “Superman: Legacy” casting is raising a lot of questions. Bentley’s renewably-powered showcase at Goodwood Festival of Speed was opened in dramatic fashion this morning, with the announcement of a new, albeit unofficial, hillclimb record – fastest car with a trailer. A Bentayga EWB, Bentley’s newest flagship, completed the hill climb at speed in just 1 minute 21 seconds – impressive enough, but made even more surprising by the fact it was towing 2.5 tonnes of straw in a specially-prepared Ifor Williams trailer. Not only has the run set a new Goodwood record – fastest time for a car and trailer - the unofficial run of 1 minute 21 seconds was completed on second-generation renewable fuel, made from agricultural waste straw. As part of Bentley’s ongoing trails into sustainable fuel, all modern Bentleys running on the hillclimb at the Festival of Speed over the next four days are using renewable fuel, meaning an 85 per cent reduction in carbon emissions on a well-to-wheels basis.For safety reasons, the run was completed ahead of the start of the Festival of Speed, during the build phase of the event, meaning the record time is not official.The 2.5 tonnes of straw hauled to the top of hill is enough to create 1,100 miles-worth of fuel that the Bentayga EWB and indeed all Bentleys can run on without modification. The second-generation biofuel conforms to the global EN228 standard for gasoline, meaning it’s a straightforward replacement for normal pump fuel.
Škoda has set two official world ice drift records with the Enyaq RS iV SUV, the brand’s second all-electric sporting model. The records for the ’Longest Continuous Vehicle Drift on Ice’ and the ‘Longest Continuous Vehicle Drift on Ice (electric car)’, have been verified by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS. They were set by motoring journalist Richard Meaden on a circular track measuring 188.496 m in circumference on the frozen Stortjärnen lake near Östersund, Sweden, on Thursday 19 January 2023.The first record broken by Škoda on the Stortjärnen lake was for the Longest Continuous Vehicle Drift on Ice. Driving the recently launched Škoda Enyaq RS iV SUV, Richard Meaden set a new officially-verified record by holding the car in a controlled slide for more than 15 minutes and 7.351 km. Meaden’s drift beat the previous record of 6.231 km, set in China in 2022. In breaking the first record, Meaden and the Škoda Enyaq RS iV SUV set a second record for the ‘Longest Continuous Vehicle Drift on Ice (electric car)’.With a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator present and international drifting judge David Kalas as a witness, Škoda set the record on the brand’s fourth day on location following numerous practice runs with different tyre combinations. A total of 18 hours of drifting were put in across the full five days in sub-zero temperatures to achieve the perfect drift.
