Is It Time For Glitter To Make Its Grand Exit?

Description

The world is quickly turning against single-use plastic straws and shopping bags. And according to LifeHacker, glitter may be next on the environmental chopping block. Turns out, the party decoration isn't so harmless after all. Most glitter is made of plastic, aluminum, and polyethylene terepthalate, which already isn’t a great sign. PET can be broken down into chemicals that are linked with hormone disruption in both humans and animals. Because of glitter’s small size, it’s considered a microplastic. Microplastics find their way into oceans. Fish then eat them, thereby making their way into the human food chain. Some scientists are calling for a ban, but others say there just isn’t enough research.
