  • Full Electric Mercedes-Benz Citaro - Summer Testing

It must be electric bus season again. After Thomas Built announced their all-electric school bus, Mercedes-Benz started the countdown to zero-emission buses. By the end of next year, Mercedes will start production of a bus with an electric drive system based on their existing bus platform the Mercedes-Benz Citaro. The company celebrated the production of their 50,000 Citaro recently. They’ve already been experimenting with hybrid bus technology with their Citaro G BlueTec Hybrid. The new Citaro is going to borrow the Hybrid’s wheel hub motors at the rear-axel. Energy for the bus will come with a newly designed modular lithium-ion battery pack. The modular design means that each bus could be customized to meet the specific range requirements of the route it's built to run.

  • BMW Private view - 10 facts about BMW DTM driver Joel Eriksson

After a short summer break, BMW M Motorsport and the BMW DTM teams now return for the second half of the 2018 DTM season. The DTM is back at Brands Hatch in the south of England for the sixth of its ten race weekends. The iconic circuit in the county of Kent hosted the touring car series between 2006 and 2013. Back then, however, the shorter Indy variant was used, whereas this year’s races will be held on the 3.908-kilometre Grand Prix circuit. Most of the drivers are as yet unfamiliar with this layout, with the exception of BMW drivers Augusto Farfus (BRA), who won on the longer circuit in the FIA World Touring Car Championship (FIA WTCC), and BMW DTM rookie Philipp Eng (AUT), who knows the track from his time in GT racing. BMW raced in the DTM at Brands Hatch in 2012 and 2013, with Bruno Spengler (CAN) finishing on the podium on both occasions.

  • Ferrari Grand Prix Austria - The circuit

"As far as race fans are concerned, a race weekend ends on a Sunday night and another one starts on a Thursday morning. But for a Formula 1 team, the race never ends. Last Sunday night, the Scuderia Ferrari trucks set off on the tortuous roads that run down the hill from Paul Ricard, jammed with traffic, to get back to Maranello in time for the race cars and equipment to be overhauled. Meanwhile, part of the team headed straight for Austria to set up the garage and paddock facilities. The rest of the crew will arrive in Spielberg over the coming days. It’s now the height of summer and the race in Styria has always been one of the classic events of the holiday season, with the odd exception such as the ’97 race, which was held in late September. It’s yet another reason to expect a good crowd, in an area famous for its natural beauty and the welcome it provides. There’s enough accommodation in the area, but it’s mainly guest houses, so that the F1 folk are scattered all around the villages in the area. The track has been modified over the years: the original one made use of the local airfield and was only 3.2 km in length and all it had in common with the current format was the very short lap time. Last year in qualifying, cars were lapping in around the 1m 4s mark and one could speculate that this year, with the Soft, Supersoft and Ultrasoft compounds on offer, we will see them crack the one minute barrier: weather permitting of course because at the moment the forecast says there’s a chance of thunderstorms, at least up until Friday."

  • Ferrari German GP -- De La Rosa - Not giving up on this year

Subscribe for more car videos: http://bitly/AutoMotoTV The opening round of the season in Melbourne doesn't seem that long ago and yet this weekend in Germany, the Formula 1 circus is about to rush pell-mell into a pair of back-to-back races that takes it over the halfway point of the year and into the summer break. The first of this pair of races takes place at the Hockenheimring, a biennial venue, as the race shares its place on the calendar with the Nurburgring. After the last round in Silverstone, Scuderia Ferrari and the other ten teams stayed on at the English circuit and, following Kimi Raikkonen's accident, from which the Finn is now fully recovered, test driver Pedro de la Rosa was installed in the cockpit of the F14 T for one day. Part of the team since January 2013, the Spaniard spends most of his working life with the Scuderia in the simulator, so a day on track was a rare treat. "It was fantastic to be back in the car, it was such a rush," admits Pedro. "It was an important opportunity to actually drive the real car from the point of view of correlating the results from the simulator and the track to see that all the work we are doing in the simulator is correct. Car handling, power delivery, so many things are different from when I used to race. That's why it's so important to have these test days for the F1 test drivers like me that do a lot of simulator work. We learned a lot in Silverstone, carrying out a steady development programme. Race by race we are improving and we are not giving up on this year, even if we are also thinking already about 2015." Hockenheim in mid-July is usually one of the hottest venues on the calendar and will provide a stern test of car reliability. In addition, Pirelli's aggressive choice of running the Soft and Supersoft tyres will make for exciting racing, while requiring the teams to pay close attention to tyre management. "Hockenheim is a very complete track where you require everything from the car," is De la Rosa's assessment. "You need power, the right car balance front to rear and you need good downforce, because although it's not a particularly long track, it has all types of corner. For example, in the first sector, you will need a very strong front end for Turn 1, otherwise if you have a bit of understeer there, you cannot put the power down and you lose a lot of exit speed. Good traction is essential for Turns 2 and 5, because after these corners come the two longest straights on the track, while the hairpin at Turn 6 is the perfect overtaking opportunity For the last sector, you just need a lot of downforce. That's the part of the track with the most corners and it's where a good car aerodynamically and mechanically shows up."
