BMW introduced the all-new 2019 BMW 8 Series Coupe. Initially available as the BMW M850i xDrive variant, the coupe makes its return to the U.S. after 20 years and writes a new chapter in the luxury sports coupe’s story of outstanding performance, beautiful design and state of the art technology.The new luxury sports coupe will be built at the BMW Dingolfing plant in Germany, home to BMW 7 Series sedan production. The number ‘8’ in the model name indicates the new vehicle’s high-ranking status within BMW’s product range. As in the past with the BMW Z8 and with the current BMW i8, it is reserved for exceptionally sporty cars that stir the emotions. The all-new BMW 8 Series Coupe is the first key component of the Munich-based brand’s luxury segment model offensive.The directive for the all-new BMW 8 Series Coupe’s design was to provide a thrilling driving experience. Body, powertrain and suspension were honed to achieve the agility, precision and poise expected of a top-class luxury sports coupe. The all-new BMW 8 Series Coupe was developed in parallel to the BMW M8 GTE race car, which has already proven its potential in the 2018 FIA World Endurance Championship long-distance races and in the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
A four-door sports car has been added to the new BMW 8 Series range. With its standalone body concept, plus powertrain and chassis technology designed squarely to engender supreme dynamic ability, the new BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe embodies a brand of sporting flair unique in the luxury segment. Joining the BMW 8 Series Coupe and BMW 8 Series Convertible as the third model in the 8 Series range, the Gran Coupe has a character all of its own, combining smile-inducing performance and design shaped by dynamism and elegance with significantly increased spaciousness for passengers in the rear seats. Meanwhile, exclusive equipment features and the latest innovations in the areas of control/operation, driver assistance and connectivity represent a case study in modern luxury.
BMW has pulled back the covers on a new definition of automotive luxury. The BMW X7 blends lavish presence, exclusivity and spaciousness with the versatile and agile driving properties customers would expect from a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV). The latest and largest model in the BMW X line-up uses its outstanding powertrain and chassis technology, plus generous levels of space in each of its three rows of seats, a luxurious ambience and advanced equipment features, to deliver an unparalleled driving and interior experience. BMW's new design language brings the modern elegance characteristic of the brand's luxury-segment models to the exterior of the BMW X7, and adds visual poise, assurance and an overriding sense of authority.The new BMW X7 represents the next stage in the premium carmaker's ongoing model offensive in the luxury segment. Its increased presence in the class and the systematic expansion of the BMW X model portfolio are among the key areas the BMW Group has identified - as part of its NUMBER ONE > NEXT strategy - to ensure sustained growth in the world's car markets in the future.
The BMW M Performance model that will be available from launch provides a particularly impressive demonstration of the new BMW 8-Series Coupe's sporting essence. Under the bonnet of the BMW M850i xDrive Coupe lies a 390 kW/530 hp V8 engine that has undergone extensive refinement and produces formidable power. It serves up a particularly intense form of the unmistakable power delivery and acoustics of eight-cylinder units and is every bit as captivating and emotionally thrilling as the car it powers. The second engine available at market launch clearly demonstrates the long-distance prowess of the new BMW 8-Series Coupe. The 235 kW/320 hp six-cylinder in-line diesel engine in the BMW 840d xDrive Coupe combines instantaneous pulling power with exemplary efficiency that greatly reduces the number of refuelling stops necessary when touring. Both engines transfer their power to a latest-generation eight-speed Steptronic transmission that boasts a wider gear ratio spread and even sportier gear shifts and can be operated by means of shift paddles on the steering wheel. Completing the all-round package for supreme driving dynamics is the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system, which is also fitted in a newly improved version that has been tuned for this specific model. The rear-wheel bias of the xDrive system and the rear differential lock fitted as standard on the BMW M850i xDrive Coupe ensure maximum agility and precision when the car's sporting capabilities are being put to the test.
Cleanly designed surfaces, high-quality materials and the driver-focused layout of the cockpit define the premium ambience and singularly performance-centric interior design of the new BMW 4-Series Coupé. Standard equipment includes sports seats for the driver and front passenger, for example. The structure of the elegantly designed instrument panel is based around horizontal lines. Its width is further emphasised by the contours and high-quality electroplated strips extending into the door areas. Together with the coordinated design of the instrument panel and door panel trim, the high-set centre console generates an enveloping environment for the front seat occupants. In the BMW M440i xDrive Coupé, BMW M440d xDrive Coupé and M Sport model option, the outer edges of the centre console have knee pads to cater for a sporty driving style.The instrument cluster and Control Display in the new BMW 4-Series Coupé form a large-surface display grouping, while the controls not included in these units are clustered into clearly structured function panels. The displays and buttons for the air conditioning and the central air vents are arranged in a sharply designed unit in the centre of the instrument panel. The light functions are operated from a panel of buttons next to the steering wheel. The start/ stop button for the engine is now positioned in a classy control panel in the centre console, where the newly designed selector lever is joined by the iDrive Controller and the buttons for the Driving Experience Control switch and electromechanical parking brake.The model-specific rear seats designed for two passengers have a clear individual-seat character. Integral head restraints and domes on the parcel shelf, in which speakers can also be integrated as an option alongside the child seat attachment points, underline the sporting feel in the rear section of the cabin.
