Depuis 2017, Smart ne propose plus que des modèles électriques sur le marché nord-américain et en Norvège. Et à partir de 2020, la Smart fabvriquée à Hambach ne sera disponible qu’en version électrique en Europe. Avec une vitesse maximale de 130 km/h pour ses modèles Smart fortwo (coupé et cabriolet) et Smart forfour (fabriquée en Slovénie), les modèles à propulsion électrique disposeront d’un chargeur embarqué, les batteries pouvant être renouvelées dans un labs de temps entre 3,5 h et 6 h. French Secretary of State for Economy and Finance Agnès Pannier-Runacher arrives at a Smart factory in Hambach, France where she is meant to meet with union representatives. Citing financial hardship related to Covid-19, the German group Daimler, which owns Mercedes and Smart, announced in July their desire to sell the factory that employs some 1,600 people. IMAGES
Around 300 employees at the Smart factory in Hambach in eastern France symbolically stop work while an extraordinary social and economic committee (CSE) is held.
