Volvo Cars has introduced a new, improved Recharge plug-in hybrid powertrain on its 90 and 60 Series models, significantly extending electric range while lowering CO2 emissions, increasing performance and improving driveability. Volvo Cars’ new and improved hybrid powertrain brings the all-electric range up to a projected 90 kilometres on a single charge. With the average premium car owner travelling less than 50 kilometres each weekday, most Volvo drivers with home charging will be able do their daily motoring on pure electric power in a new Volvo plug-in hybrid.
Volvo Cars has unveiled a refreshed version of its best-selling Volvo XC90 large SUV, the company's top-of-the-line flagship, adding a newly-developed fuel-saving engine option that marks the next step in the company's ambitious electrification strategy.The refreshed Volvo XC90 for the first time offers customers Volvo's advanced kinetic energy recovery braking system, which is coupled with its existing internal combustion engines to create a new integrated electrified powertrain, under its new 'B' badge.This new electrified powertrain offers drivers up to 15 per cent fuel savings and emission reductions in real world driving.The new brake-by-wire system interacts with the energy recovery system and reduces fuel consumption and emissions by recovering kinetic energy under braking.
The S60 R-Design is inspired by the joy of driving. High-gloss black exterior details and unique alloy wheel designs communicate the car’s potential. Contour seats and special interior trim confirm, along with stiffer, lower suspension, that this is a car designed for those who love to drive. Glossy black inserts for the front, lower and outer grilles give the S60 R-Design a powerful, dynamic look. The S60 R-Design is a true driver’s sedan, with lower, stiffer settings and optional gearshift paddles for an even more engaging feel when you are behind the wheel. Metal Mesh Aluminium décor inlays, Charcoal headlining and Contour seats upholstered in Leather/Open grid textile create an ambience focused on driving pleasure. Bold 18-inch alloy wheels enhance the muscular appearance. Optional 19- and 20-inch R-Design wheels are available.
Volvo revealed the new S60 midsize sedan, and it seems like we might have a real sleeper on our hands. The top-of-the-line S60, the T8 hybrid, offers 400 hp from a turbo- and supercharged four-cylinder driving the front wheels plus an electric motor at the rear axle. And if that's not enough, there's a Polestar-Engineered version with 415 hp and a hefty 494 lb-ft of torque. According to Automotive News, the S60 T8 Polestar Engineered will do 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds. That doesn't make it an all-out BMW M3-fighter, but it does put this S60 on par with all-wheel drive sports sedans like the Audi S4 and Mercedes-AMG C43—which do 0-60 mph in 4.3 and 4.1 seconds, respectively, per Car and Driver—all while offering subtle good looks that'll totally fly under the radar. The Polestar upgrades don't stop at engine tuning, either. The S60 T8 Polestar Engineered gets new dampers designed in partnership with Öhlins, big Brembo brakes behind 19-inch forged wheels, and a strut-tower brace under the hood. There's also some styling upgrades inside and out to signify to those in the know that this is no ordinary Volvo.
The new Volvo S60 R-Design pack includes a sharp new bodykit including a low chin spoiler on the front (so sharp it will scrub out on driveways if you're not careful), a piano black grille with an 'R-Design' badge, and a racy rear diffuser setup at the back. There's also a subtle boot lip spoiler and dark-accented 17-inch alloys to top it off. As far as equipment goes, the T6 R-Design comes with the same 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six Ford SI6 engine as the standard T6, producing 224kW of power and 440Nm of hill-flattening torque. The interior is then filled with everything a modern driver needs, including a comprehensive multifunction LCD display with sat-nav, electric front seats, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a sunroof and push-button engine start/stop.
