Images show flooded streets as heavy rain continues in the central Vietnamese city of Hue. Two people died after being swept away by floodwaters in the region, state media reported on Saturday, as areas from the Ha Tinh to Quang Nam provinces were hit with torrential downpours. Methamphetamine overdose deaths in the United States are on the rise. According to UPI, the deaths have increased nearly 30% from 2011 to 2018. The highest number of overdose deaths was seen among American Indian and Alaska Native communities. Non-Hispanic Whites had the second-highest number of overdose deaths. Methamphetamine is a highly addictive drug that can be snorted, smoked, injected, or swallowed.
Many cities use 311 as a non-emergency phone line. A new study has shown the calls to the number can accurately predict future opioid overdose hotspots. According to UPI, the accuracy of the prediction is more than 90%. The study shows that neighborhoods with high rates of opioid-related overdoses make more calls to non-emergency hotlines. Most of the non-emergency reports involve code violations, abandoned vehicles, and other public nuisances. 311 reports of pests, unsanitary conditions, and streetlight outages predict future overdose hotspots more than 80% of the time.
