Tokyo, Jan 27 (EFE/EPA).- The final decision on whether or not to hold the Olympic Games in Tokyo this summer does not solely rest with Japan, but will also depend on the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the organizing committee, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said Wednesday.Suga was asked in a parliamentary meeting about the criteria used by his government to decide whether or not to go ahead with the organization of the games scheduled for this summer in Tokyo, amid growing concerns about whether the event can be held safely during the unrelenting Covid-19 pandemic. The International Olympic Committee has given the go-ahead for a number of new sports to compete at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. According to CNN, one notable newcomer will be breakdancing. It will be the first DanceSport event to appear at an Olympic Games, having been staged at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires two years ago. The IOC executive board also announced that skateboarding, sport climbing, and surfing will be featured in Paris, too. Those three events were due to debut at the postponed Tokyo Games. Hubo the humanoid robot took part in the 2019 Winter Olympic Games torch relay in the South Korean city of Daejon on Monday, becoming the first robot to have the honor. The robot crashed through a brick wall to show his stronger side as part of the relay ceremony before passing the flame on to Dr Oh Jun Ho. South Korea has announced plans to employ a fleet of 85 robots ‘volunteers’ in the Winter Olympics. Eleven different types of robots are set to be used for various tasks during the games, including helping tourists make deliveries, painting murals and taking part in the torch rally.
