The Swedish Academy announces Norway's Jon Fosse as this year's winner of the Nobel literature prize "for his innovative plays and prose which give voice to the unsayable", says Mats Malm, the academy's permanent secretary. SOUNDBITE
Images of Tanzanian-born novelist Abdulrazak Gurnah's books in Stockholm after he won the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2021. Gurnah has published 10 novels and a number of short stories, and his work touches on colonialism and refugee life. IMAGES
Abdulrazak Gurnah is awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2021 for his "uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents". SOUNDBITE
The Nobel Literature Prize goes to American poet Louise Gluck, the jury at the Swedish Academy announces. Gluck is honoured "for her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal," the Academy says. SOUNDBITE
