Mats Malm, Permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy announces that French author Annie Ernaux wins the Nobel Literature Prize "for the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory." SOUNDBITE
Abdulrazak Gurnah is awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for 2021 for his "uncompromising and compassionate penetration of the effects of colonialism and the fate of the refugee in the gulf between cultures and continents". SOUNDBITE
The Nobel Literature Prize goes to American poet Louise Gluck, the jury at the Swedish Academy announces. Gluck is honoured "for her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty makes individual existence universal," the Academy says. SOUNDBITE
