Young scouts in Tripoli are collecting toys and writing letters to send the children of Derna, the Libyan city devastated by flooding. "We will rebuild it together" says one of those taking part, reading a passage he's written. Derna, in northeast Libya, was struck by flash flooding on September 10 after storm rains caused two dams to burst. International aid groups say some 10,000 people are still missing as bodies continue to wash ashore. The official death toll stands at more than 3,300, but is expected to rise.
A week after a tsunami-sized flash flood devastated the Libyan coastal city of Derna, search and rescue for bodies and any survivors continue. The massive flood burst two upstream river dams in Derna. Questions are being asked about whether the disaster could not have been prevented, as cracks in the dams have been reported since 1998.
The eastern Libyan city of Derna attemps to clear huge piles of debris that litter areas devastated in last week's deadly floods. Thousand were killed and least 40,000 people have been displaced across the north east of the country. IMAGES
