Wie der kompakte Golf R verfügt auch der Golf R Variant über den neu entwickelten Allradantrieb 4MOTION inklusive R-Performance Torque Vectoring mit radselektiver Momenten-Steuerung an der Hinterachse. Dabei wird die Antriebskraft über ein neues Hinterachsgetriebe nicht nur bedarfsgerecht zwischen der Vorder- und Hinterachse verteilt, sondern ebenso zwischen den Hinterrädern. Insbesondere in Kurven steigert der innovative Antrieb die Agilität des neuen Golf R Variant erheblich. Gleichzeitig wird die Sicherheit erhöht, da in der Kurve mehr Antriebskraft zum hinteren kurvenäußeren Rad gelenkt wird. Das verleiht dem Fahrzeug hohe Traktion bei neutralem Fahrverhalten.Das Allradsystem 4MOTION wird über den Fahrdynamikmanager mit weiteren Fahrwerkssystemen wie den elektronischen Differenzialsperren (XDS) und der optional erhältlichen adaptiven Fahrwerksregelung DCC, die verschiedene Abstimmungen bietet, vernetzt. Das Ergebnis: ein höchst präzises und neutrales Fahrerlebnis, optimale Traktion sowie herausragende Agilität. Kurzum: maximaler Fahrspaß. Final abgestimmt wurde der neue Golf R Variant auf der Nürburgring-Nordschleife.Im optionalen R-Performance-Paket verfügt der Performance-Kombi über zwei zusätzliche Fahrprofile: Im Modus „Special“ werden alle wesentlichen Antriebsparameter auf die Nordschleife und ähnlich anspruchsvolle Rennstrecken ausgelegt. Das Fahrprofil „Drift“ öffnet abseits öffentlicher Strecken ein neues Fenster der Fahrdynamik und steigert erheblich den Fahrspaß und die Sicherheit beim Querfahren.

For the first time since the model range was established - the first generation made its debut in 2002 - the Golf R, the icon of four-wheel drive compact sports cars, is being launched as an Variant car. The exclusive model produces 221 kW / 300 PS of power. The turbocharged engine of the Golf R Variant transfers up to 380 Nm torque to the permanent 4MOTION four-wheel drive system via its standard 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox (DSG). Distributing this drive power to all four wheels guarantees maximum traction, performance and active safety. Delivering pure dynamic performance are a sport suspension (lowered 20 mm), the innovative progressive steering system and "ESC Sport" - which can be fully deactivated for use on a race track. Optional highlights include the latest generation of the DCC adaptive chassis control system with a driving profile selector that features a Race mode. At the world premiere, Volkswagen presents the first photos and facts of the completely newly developed Passat. The focus is on powerful aerodynamic design, new high-efficiency drives, high quality and a host of new technologies. In just a few days, the vehicle will be shown to the public for the first time at the IAA Mobility in Munich (5 to 9 September 2023). The new Passat will be launched as a versatile Variant in the first quarter of 2024. With more than 34 million units sold worldwide, the Passat is the top-selling Volkswagen of all time after the Golf and ahead of the Beetle.Clean and powerful – the design is clearly Passat, clearly Volkswagen, yet new from every perspective. The customer-focused range of three new plug-in and mild hybrid drives and five turbocharged petrol and diesel engine variants is characterised by efficiency. The quiet and spacious Passat Variant offers a high level of travel comfort and will be optionally available with new adaptive chassis control (DCC Pro) and new ergoActive seats (with pneumatic pressure point massage). The intuitive features of the digitalised cockpit landscape are a completely new development. The new Passat can also optionally park independently and cover long distances in assisted driving mode.The two completely newly developed plug-in hybrid drives (eHybrid) with a system output of 150 kW (204 PS) and 200 kW (272 PS) are a perfect example of this. In combination with a new 19.7 kWh battery (net energy content), they make all-electric ranges of around 100 km possible. This distance turns the new Passat Variant into an electric vehicle for everyday life – this is additionally ensured by short charging times as the battery can now be charged at AC charge points with 11 kW instead of the previous 3.6 kW. The Passat Variant eHybrid can even be charged with up to 50 kW at DC fast charging stations. In addition, the combination of electric drive motor and new economical turbocharged petrol engine (1.5 TSI evo2) provides overall ranges of around 1,000 km.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Golf R, Volkswagen is launching the Golf R “20 Years” as an exclusive special-edition model. The production period limited to approximately one year makes the special-edition model a collector’s item as soon as it rolls off the production line. Like all premium performance models of the Volkswagen R with their increased power, the Golf R has its roots on the race track and stands for the transfer of innovative technologies to series production. Fan communities around the world are enthralled by the expressive design and enhanced performance. The new Golf R “20 Years” is now available to order with prices starting from 59,995 euros in Germany.
