Wednesday 19th of July was the first of three days of mobilisation in Kenya decreed by Raila Odinga, and the first success according to the leader of the opposition coalition. Although there were relatively few demonstrators, the anti-expense protests nevertheless affected several towns in many parts of the country. Some of the rallies turned violent. FRANCE 24's correspondent Bastien Renouil reports.
Kenyan protesters hurled rocks at police, which responded with volleys of tear gas, in skirmishes in the country's major cities on Wednesday as three days of demonstrations against high costs of living and tax hikes kicked off.
