A group of Afghan women are also on the shortlist to win to European Union’s top human rights prize.
Daria Navalnaya, daughter of imprisoned anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny was presented with the Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought on Wednesday at a ceremony in Strasbourg.
EP President David Sassoli recognised an "initiative of brave women" in his speech, including opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya.
This year's finalists included WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and Colombia's Truth Commission.
