Old ship records to shed light on Arctic ice loss

Description

Researchers are looking to the past to gain a clearer picture of what the future holds for ice in the Arctic. A project to analyse and digitize ship logs dating back to the 1850's aims to lengthen the timeline of recorded ice data. Ben Gruber reports.

Army of 2,018 Snowmen Swarm Harbin for New Year

A literal army of snowmen, 2,018 to be exact, greeted residents of the Chinese city of Harbin on Thursday at the Qunli Bund theme park to ring in the New Year. Some 424,000 cubic feet of snow were reportedly used in making the sculptures. The exhibition is set to bid for the Guinness World Record for the greatest number of snowmen in a park.
