The US State Department is "incredibly concerned" about reports that Russia arrested an American journalist, a US State Department spokesman tells reporters at a press briefing. "I want to say clearly and unequivocally in the strongest terms, we condemn the Kremlin's continued attempts to intimidate, repress and punish journalists and civil society voices," Vedant Patel adds. The US State Department rejects an arrest warrant issued by a Venezuelan court for opposition presidential candidate Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, who claims to have won the country's disputed July presidential election. "The arbitrary and politically motivated action demonstrates the extraordinary lengths to which Nicolas Maduro will go to try and maintain power following his attempt to steal the July 28th presidential election," State Department spokesman Matthew Miller tells reporters.
