Facebook Invents New Unit Of Time

Description

Facebook has announced a new unit of time called the "flick." It's the equivalent to precisely one 705,600,000th of a second. It's useful for special effects artists and anybody else working in film or virtual reality. "Flicks" cleanly divide each frame in a movie, TV show, or video game in an easy-to-read, easy-to-use number. Flick's original inventor, Christopher Horvath says it's short for "frame tick.

Istanbul (Turkey), Oct 6 (EFE / EPA) .- (Camera: Ilya Topper / Sedat Suna) Since this summer, thirty women have joined for the first time the historic and centennial fire department of Istanbul, the main city of Turkey, a Muslim country, ruled by the conservative Islamist AKP party.FOOTAGE OF THE FIREFIGHTERS UNIT OF ISTANBUL.SOUNDBITES OF ESRA ÜÇLER, CEYDA CIRIK AND RÜVEYDA TÖS, FIREFIGHTERS.Translation:Üçler:1. "I think it is necessary. It is the first time that there are women here, but I believe that women have to be everywhere."Cirik:2. "Being a firefighter is not seen as a women's job, it is not considered a women's job. But since I was little I did these kinds of things, things that look like boy things, I grew up as a boy. So, my family, I didn't see anything unusual in this situation. "Cough:3. "When I chose to be a construction engineer, they told me that I couldn't do that, that it was a man's job. But I didn't pay any attention, frankly, and chose that trade. Then, when I chose this trade, they told me again: It's a men's job, you can't do it, there are a majority of men, they won't listen to you, there are prejudices ... We are here to demolish this ideology. I think a woman can do any job. "

  • Study: There's No Good Time To Be In A COVID-19 ICU, But Some Times Are Worse Than Others

If you're unlucky enough to need a bed in an intensive care unit for COVID-19, cross your fingers that you'll get a bed at the right time. That's because ICU patients treated during periods of increased demand are almost twice as likely to die compared to those treated in low-demand periods. UPI reports intensive care units operating at 75% to 100% capacity were classified as 'high demand.' 'Low demand' was classified at less than 25% of capacity. The study showed patients in ICUs operating at high demand had a 94% higher risk for death compared to those in facilities operating at low demand. Hospitals in many parts of the country have reported being overwhelmed with patients requiring ICU treatment during the pandemic. Research suggests up to 30% of COVID-19 patients require treatment in the ICU, with many needing mechanical ventilator support to breathe.
