Czech carmaker Skoda is betting big on China. They unveiled an electric concept car called the Vision E, through which they hope to take their place in the world's largest auto market. Skoda CEO Bernhard Maier's presence at the unveiling underscores the importance of the market to the company. Skoda's new Vision E electric concept car was unveiled at the 2017 International Automobile & Manufacturing Technology Exhibition, also known as Auto Shanghai Expo on Tuesday. The four-seat crossover is based on VW Group’s MEB platform. Vision E has two electric motors delivering a combined 225kW of power. Designed in the Czech Republic, the Vision E is fuelled by liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery cells, and boasts a potential driving range of 310 miles. China's automotive industry has been the largest in the world since 2008. Chinese automakers produce more cars than the US and Japanese markets combined. In 2014, China produced over a quarter of the world's cars.
Chinese carmaker Qoros presented its new electric Model K-EV concept at the International Automobile & Manufacturing Technology Exhibition, also known as Auto Shanghai 2017, taking place in Shanghai, on Wednesday. The Model K-EV is envisioned to feature two electric motors, producing 870 hp that will allow the car to propel from 0-100 km/h in less than three seconds. Additonaly, a 107 kWh battery pack, which is attached on the vehicle's floor, supplies power to its motors. The battery is designed to enable the concept car to reach up to 300 miles on a single charge. China's automotive industry has been the largest in the world since 2008. Any mechanic will tell you how many parts any vehicle can have, and how it's not always clear what repairs are needed to fix an issue. The Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research displayed its VR solution for car repairs, which allows users to see a full 3D model of all the parts a car can have, at the 2017 CeBIT digital expo in Hanover on Sunday, . The system is designed specifically for mechanics, but may soon be available commercially. The technology can be used to show a mechanic where he has to look for repairs inside a car or where to install the corresponding part, among other tasks. Held annually in Hanover, CeBIT is one of the world's largest tech trade fairs and will go on until March 24.
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation presented its EMIRAI xDAS 3.1 concept car at the 2017 CeBIT tech fair in Hanover on Monday, giving a potential look at the types of vehicles which might be driving our roads in about 5 to 10 years time. The futuristic concept features next-gen driving-assistance technology, augmented reality navigation, gesture and face recognition, and wearable devices which provide information to specific passengers. It also collects information about the drivers' physical condition via camera sensors and a built-in cardiograph to combat fatigue.

A new technology developed by Japanese tech company OMRON may have a solution to help prevent crashes caused by driver fatigue. OMRON's Onboard Driving Monitoring Sensor uses facial recognition and artificial intelligence to tell if a driver is falling asleep or texting while driving, and prompting them to pay attention and drive safely.
One of the most epic drag races ever took place at the 2017 MAKS Air Show in Russia on Saturday - pitting a MIG-29UB fighter jet against a Formula 1 race car. The Formula 1 vehicle took the lead in the beginning but the MIG's engines warmed up quickly and the jet quickly overtook the race car before going airborn. The action took place on the grounds of the Zhukovsky airfield outside Moscow, and featured some of the world's fastest four-wheeled vehicles racing different aircraft on the race track in a mini event called the Festival of Speed.
An all-new hybrid 'universal transport' prototype was showcased at the MAKS airshow in Russia on Wednesday, called the BORTS Triton, a wheeled offroad vehicle which has also has hovercraft capabilities as well an aerochute, which means that this one of a kind auto can conquer the land, water, and skies. The two-seater SUV is adept on land as an electrical car, uses an aerochute when converted into a plane and becomes a hovercraft once on water all thanks to a low-noise, ten-blade propellor.
